How to find niche influencers tied to a city

Get started

This article goes in depth on how to find influencers within a niche tied to a city or social clique.

1. Find new by using one profile as reference

This profile should be what you're looking for. That means if you're looking for profiles with similar audience, same nationality, follower range.

I then go into Lea's following list, filter down the follower range I'm looking for. I also specify Spain as I want profiles within Spain + similar audience.

I drag about 45 profiles into a tag (keep in mind 20 should be enough) - all following Lea.

Run Lookalike

Wihoo! I get xxx profiles in results!

Why why why Lookalike? And not Similar Audience or regular filters?

The main difference is that Lookalike, compared to other features, will IMPORT new profiles. Yep, brand new profiles, that might never have been contacted or found by anyone.

That means as long as your initial list is specific to a group of people, dogs, audience - the Lookalike will import new profiles too.

In this example I show one profile as reference (as that's an easy starting point).

I then look into who that profile follows, within the same country. I will then be assured that the results I get are local to country or city (if I would have gone that specific)

While Similar Audience is powerful to find quickly - Lookalike is more powerful when finding new. It becomes an infinite search (if used right).

Go more specific? Do this by city!

Lea goes Madrid

If you want to go city specific, you should only add profiles from the same city to the initial list (that you will run the Lookalike on).

Why? Think about it like this. If we would have added you + plus your friends (from the same city), it's likely you as a group are connected with more people from the same city.

That's why adding poeple from the same city in the initial list gets so powerful.

Back to Lea

I wrote "Madrid" in addition to previous query, looking on Lea's following list

As you see more specific to city now, by nature.

2. Find new profiles by a list of profiles (from the same city)

Make sure you have a list of people from the same city/friend group.

In my case I looked into who @lise_visser follows to get my initial list.

In her following, I limited to maximum 4k followers.

I then only add NL, Netherlands people to tag. And I decided to just look in bio if they are from Netherlands, to not miss anyone that might not be identified and have the biggest pool possible.

I have 19 profiles - from LiseĀ“s clique. From NL.

Results, local, and specific to audience. See below:

New example! Anglers in Amsterdam

I start from @dutchcarpcouple

Following Followers Go through their Instagram (highest quality) Even though this is most time consuming it's worth trying. All profiles you find manually (within same city, college, group of friends, comments fields) will yield higher quality results and more new profiles Then put those profiles into the tag that you will run Lookalike on casper_van_amsterdam ivanbattisti82 jangailing_fishing catattack_bs m.vth_carp oopcarpangler ricardokoster_1987

Summary

  • Lookalike is the only feature that will import new profiles automatically
  • Similar Audience is good if you want to find profiles within similar audience
  • Static search (filter) only, is the least effective method
